Glycolic Acid 7%

2023/8/2 Edited to

... Read moreHey everyone! If you're like me and have struggled with body concerns beyond just your face – we're talking rough texture, uneven skin tone, and especially stubborn back acne – then you're in for a treat. I've found my absolute holy grail product: The Ordinary Glycolic Acid 7% Toning Solution. It's not just for your face, and I'm here to spill all my secrets on how I've incorporated it into my body care routine for amazing results. Why Glycolic Acid 7% for Body & Back Acne? Glycolic acid is an Alpha Hydroxy Acid (AHA) that works wonders by gently exfoliating the surface layer of your skin. This means it helps to shed dead skin cells, unclog pores, and improve overall skin texture. For body concerns like 'bacne' (back acne) or bumpy arms (keratosis pilaris), it's incredibly effective because it prevents those dead skin cells from building up and causing blockages. Plus, it can help fade post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, leaving your skin looking much clearer and smoother. My Go-To Glycolic Acid Body Routine Here’s how I’ve been using The Ordinary Glycolic Acid 7% Toning Solution to target my body and back acne concerns: Step 1: Prep is Key (Night Time Only!) I always start with clean, dry skin. After my evening shower, I make sure my skin is completely dry. This is crucial for optimal absorption and to avoid any unnecessary irritation. Remember, the image tips emphasized to "use at night on clean, dry skin" – and trust me, it makes a difference. Step 2: Smart Application for Body Areas Instead of a small cotton pad, I've found a few tricks for easier application on larger areas. For my back, I sometimes pour a small amount into a clean spray bottle (designated just for this product!) and gently mist it, then pat it in. For my chest, shoulders, and arms, I pour a bit into my clean hands and gently pat it onto the skin. You don't need a lot – just enough to lightly cover the area. This method is great for "applying glycolic acid on body" and getting full coverage. Step 3: Frequency & Listening to Your Skin When I first started, I applied it 2-3 times a week. Now, I use it on alternative nights, especially on my back where I battle occasional breakouts. The key is to listen to your skin. If you feel any excessive tingling or irritation, reduce the frequency. The OCR tips also mentioned to "use on alternative nights if combining" with other strong actives. Step 4: Follow with Hydration Once the glycolic acid has absorbed (usually a minute or two), I follow up with a gentle, non-comedogenic body lotion. This helps to lock in moisture and prevent any potential dryness that exfoliating acids can sometimes cause. Essential Tips & Warnings You MUST Know SPF is Your Best Friend (Non-Negotiable!): This cannot be stressed enough. Glycolic acid makes your skin more sensitive to the sun. Even if you apply it at night, you must "always wear SPF" on any treated body areas during the day. I use a broad-spectrum SPF 30+ daily on my chest, shoulders, and any other exposed skin. This is vital for "effective for body concerns with daily SPF" and preventing sun damage and hyperpigmentation. Avoid Strong Actives in the Same Routine: As the image tips highlighted, "avoid other strong acids/retinol in the same routine" on the same areas. This can lead to over-exfoliation, irritation, and damage to your skin barrier. If you use other chemical exfoliants or retinoids, alternate the nights you use them. Patch Test First: Always do a patch test on a small, inconspicuous area of your body before applying it liberally, especially if you have sensitive skin. Do Not Use on Broken Skin: Avoid applying glycolic acid to broken, irritated, or freshly shaved skin. After consistently following this routine, I've seen a significant improvement in my body skin. My "back acne" has dramatically reduced, my skin texture feels incredibly smooth, and those little bumps on my arms are practically gone. The Ordinary Glycolic Acid 7% Toning Solution truly is a powerful yet affordable tool for achieving clearer, smoother body skin. Just remember to be consistent, patient, and diligent with your SPF!
