Week one top surgery recovery

Things I highly recommend:

1. Find community! Follow small creators you like, pop into their lives, get on a Facebook group or find your own healing buddies to check in on each other! Healing is so much easier and joyful when you have support!

2. Keep busy activities close by and find fun things to watch and binge

3. Have a support person! If you are able, I highly recommend having someone with you full time for the first week or two! It’s really hard to dress, reach, drive, bend and cleanse yourself so support is so helpful!

4. If you have any breakthrough pain (migraines, severe pain…) don’t be afraid to reach out to your medical team! They are there to help and make sure you are healing correctly!

5. Aromatherapy genuinely helps me create a relaxing environment for recovering! I love the smell of lavender and a vaporizer helps with any breathing issues and dry sinuses from meds, intubation and sleeping at an angle.

... Read moreRecovering from top surgery can be a transformative journey, and the first week is critical. Emphasizing community support is vital; connecting with others who have had similar experiences can drastically improve your healing process. Social media platforms, especially niche forums and support groups, offer a wealth of shared experiences and practical advice. Keeping yourself engaged in light activities can provide emotional respite. Consider watching uplifting shows or participating in hobbies that do not strain your physical health but keep your mind active. When it comes to pain management, utilizing both medical advice and holistic practices like aromatherapy can be beneficial. Lavender, known for its calming properties, can reduce anxiety and promote a restful atmosphere. A vaporizer with lavender pads can alleviate respiratory discomfort during recovery, ensuring a more comfortable healing environment. It’s also important to address any unusual pain as soon as it arises. Don't hesitate to contact your healthcare provider with concerns about breakthrough pain or discomfort. Prompt communication can prevent complications and enhance recovery. Finally, remember the power of self-compassion. Allow yourself to rest and lean on your support network. Every small step you take towards your recovery is a victory worth celebrating.
