Between her lips and lies… part 2

Domo’s energy wasn’t the same anymore.
It used to be soft—playful, warm, the kind that made Lashae feel safe even when they argued. Now it felt sharp. Unpredictable. Like anything could set her off.
Lashae stayed on the couch, sunk into the cushions, staring at the TV without really watching it. Truth was… she didn’t feel like moving. Not into that room. Not into whatever version of Domo was waiting in there.
The bedroom door creaked open.
“You aren’t coming to bed?” Domo asked, her voice flat.
Lashae didn’t look at her. “No… I’m good out here.”
A pause.
“Why?”
“I’m just tired,” Lashae said, quick. Too quick.
Domo stood there for a second, studying her. Then she pushed off the wall and walked over.
“I’ll carry you,” she said, like it was nothing.
Before Lashae could fully react, Domo reached down, sliding an arm behind her back and under her legs.
“Don’t,” Lashae said, sharp this time, her body tensing instantly.
Domo froze mid-motion.
“…What?” she asked, her tone already changing.
“I said don’t,” Lashae repeated, sitting up now, putting space between them. “I’m not going in there.”
Silence stretched between them.
Domo straightened slowly, her jaw tightening. “Aight, bro.”
But she didn’t move right away.
She just stood there, looking down at Lashae like she was trying to figure something out… or trying not to snap.
Lashae could feel it—that shift. That pressure.
So she looked away first.
“Go ahead,” Lashae muttered. “I said I’m good.”
Domo let out a dry laugh under her breath, but there was no humor in it.
“Yeah,” she said quietly. “You real good at that. Acting like everything cool.”
Lashae’s eyes flicked back to her. “I’m not acting.”
“Could’ve fooled me.”
That did it.
Lashae sat up straighter. “See, this is exactly why I’m not coming in there. You got some attitude for no reason.”
Domo took a step closer. “No reason?”
But then—
Her phone buzzed.
They both paused.
Domo pulled it out slowly, her expression unreadable.
Lashae watched her this time.
Closely.
Domo read the message… and something in her face shifted again.
Not anger.
Not attitude.
Something darker.
Lashae felt it immediately. “Who is that?”
Domo locked her phone. “Nobody.”
“Domo—”
“I said it’s nobody,” she snapped, louder now.
The room went still.
Lashae leaned back again, but her eyes stayed on her. “…Yeah. Aight.”
Domo stood there a second longer, like she wanted to say something else.
But she didn’t.
She just turned and walked back into the room, shutting the door harder than before.
Lashae waited.
Then slowly reached for her own phone.
Something wasn’t right.
And whatever Domo was hiding…
…it was getting worse.
