StrengthSpan Wisdom
Muscle is not just tissue for movement.
It is also an endocrine signaling organ.
When muscles contract, they release molecules called myokines. These signaling molecules travel through the bloodstream and influence multiple systems in the body, including the brain, metabolism, and immune system.
This means movement is more than exercise.
Muscle contraction becomes biological communication that tells the body how much capacity is still required.
When muscles remain active, the body receives the message that strength, energy regulation, and repair are still needed.
When muscles remain inactive, the body receives the opposite message.
This is one reason strength training plays such an important role in maintaining health and capacity as we age.
I explore this idea further in Not Done Yet, where the central principle is simple:
Aging accelerates when systems stop adapting.
Strength training is one of the clearest biological signals that adaptation is still required.
