Favorite washi tapes

here are some of the washi tapes out of 100 that I frequently use because they go well with absolutely anything in my journal spreads~

1. Daiso brand pastel masking tape 85% extra ($2.50) - this is the cheaper alternative to MT pastel brown! and looks good with ANYTHING

2. Muji traditional pattern masking tape ($7.50 set of 3) - I use the dotted one the most, to layer below patterned tapes or stickers

3. World Craft pink grid masking tape - got this from Taobao years ago and idk if it’s been discontinued

4. MT Pastel ivory ($4) - I haven’t found the cheaper alternative yet but if I find it, I’ll get it

5. Artbox blue check masking tape ($2.99) - adds a subtle touch

... Read moreYou know how some washi tapes just... work with everything? My secret is looking for versatile patterns and colors that can serve as a foundation for any journal spread. I absolutely adore pastel brown and pastel ivory tapes because they're neutral bases perfect for layering. Dotted or subtle grid patterns, like the Muji traditional dotted or a charming World Craft pink grid, are fantastic for adding texture without overwhelming your design. They’re ideal for creating subtle borders or dividing sections on a page without being too distracting. When it comes to journal tape design, the possibilities are truly endless! Don't just stick to using them as straight borders. I love tearing washi tape to create unique, organic edges, or cutting small shapes, like hearts or stars, to use as mini stickers. Layering is another game-changer that instantly elevates a simple page – start with a solid color, then add a patterned tape like a delicate Artbox blue check or a floral on top. This technique adds depth and visual interest effortlessly. Beyond aesthetics, washi tapes are super functional. I often use them to create temporary labels for specific sections in my planner, highlight important notes (especially if they're a subtle pastel color), or even to attach small bits of ephemera like ticket stubs or photos to my pages. They're also brilliant for making quick tabs in your planner or creating little pockets for loose leaf notes. For that '78 best washi tape ideas' vibe, think about using them to create faux polaroid frames around photos or to define mood tracker sections in a visually appealing way! Finding your own 'go-to' washi tapes is a fun journey of discovery! While I cherish my Muji masking tapes and MT pastel ivory, I'm always on the hunt for budget-friendly alternatives that offer similar quality. Daiso washi tapes, for instance, are incredible value and often have surprisingly chic designs. Don't be afraid to experiment with different brands and patterns. Sometimes the most unexpected finds, like a specific pink grid or a unique blue check, become your absolute favorites. Keep an eye out for sales and multi-roll sets to build your collection without breaking the bank and discover tapes that truly speak to your style. To keep your washi tape collection neat and accessible for all your journal spreads, good storage is key. I personally keep mine in clear containers or on a dedicated washi tape dispenser. This not only makes them easy to find when inspiration strikes but also protects them from dust and keeps them from unrolling. If you find a roll isn't sticking as well as it used to, try pressing it firmly onto your surface with a ruler or a bone folder. A well-organized collection definitely inspires more creativity and makes your journaling process even more enjoyable!
