Did you know what the gallbladder actually is?

Before my own gallbladder journey, I honestly didn't know much about what the gallbladder actually is or did.

So if you're new here, here's a simple breakdown.

The gallbladder is a small organ underneath the liver that stores bile, which helps digest fats.

Sometimes substances in bile can harden and form gallstones. Some people never notice symptoms, while others may experience pain, nausea, bloating, discomfort after fatty foods, or gallbladder attacks.

For some people, gallstones can eventually lead to gallbladder removal surgery.

One thing I personally didn't expect, though, was how much adjustment could come after surgery too which is a huge reason why I created GB&B.

Disclaimer: PLEASE READ. This page provides support and information based on personal experiences with gallstones and gallbladder surgery. I do not provide or intend to provide any professional medical advice so always speak with a healthcare professional regarding symptoms or medical concerns. - (GB&B)

... Read moreFrom my personal experience dealing with gallbladder issues, I quickly realized how much this small organ impacts overall digestion, especially when it comes to fatty foods. The gallbladder’s main role is to store and release bile, a digestive fluid that helps break down fats in the small intestine. When gallstones form, they can block this bile flow, causing discomfort and other symptoms like nausea, upper abdominal pain, and bloating. Interestingly, not everyone with gallstones experiences symptoms, which makes awareness especially important. If you do notice signs like pain radiating to your back or shoulders after meals, it’s crucial to consult a healthcare professional early. For some, gallstones lead to gallbladder removal surgery, commonly known as cholecystectomy. One of the most surprising things after surgery for me was how much dietary and lifestyle adjustment was necessary. Without a gallbladder, your body processes fats differently, sometimes leading to digestive challenges like diarrhea or intolerance to rich foods initially. Over time, I learned to adapt by incorporating smaller, low-fat meals, staying hydrated, and including fiber-rich foods to support digestion. Support communities like GB&B (Gallbladder & Beyond) have been invaluable for sharing real-life experiences and practical tips on healing journeys both before and after surgery. If you’re navigating gallbladder issues, remember that recovery is a gradual process, and listening to your body while staying informed about digestive health can make a significant difference in managing symptoms and improving quality of life.
