jaw surgery recovery ❤️‍🩹

I was shocked when my orthodontist told me I needed jaw surgery …

I had already braces when I was 14 but my jaw grew more after I got them off 🥲 this is not common but this was the reality I was facing. To prevent poor wear of my teeth & jaw, I decided to proceed with the surgery to fix my open bite!

thank goodness I had insurance 😂 this was a $50,000 surgery but with insurance we paid only $5000 out of pocket! My parents helped cover this because I was only 23 when I got the surgery and couldn’t afford that.

I took 2 weeks off of work just to rest! I didn’t have a lot of energy to do stuff because I was pretty calorie deprived. I was told to not do anything that could lead to me potentially getting hit in the face so I tried to stay home and just watch shows!

after 2 weeks I honestly felt a lot better & the swelling went down quickly! I ended up going on a trip a month after surgery which is pretty crazy 😅

I still struggle with my bite because things keep moving which I am in process of figuring out what is causing that. It’s a little discouraging after doing through all this but I am still glad I did because who knows what things would be like if I didn’t!

My mom did this years ago and she said it was the best decision she ever made. Especially now that she is older. You’re brave and stunning and will think yourself even more in the long run!❤️

I only had my lower jaw done and I was banded shut for 4 weeks. Before the surgery it was only supposed to be 3 weeks but ended up being 4 because of how I healed. They gave me big syringes with like little extenders so I could drink and eat things easier.
