One of the reasons this happens is because the brain remains highly active, processing information and sometimes reacting to stress or anxiety from daily life. In my experience, having a consistent bedtime routine that includes calming activities like reading a book, gentle stretching, or listening to soothing music has helped me signal to my brain that it’s time to wind down. Another technique that’s worked well is practicing mindfulness or meditation before bed. Focusing on your breath and staying present can slow down the mental chatter and help ease into sleep much easier. Avoiding screens at least an hour before bedtime is crucial as well because the blue light emitted can trick your brain into thinking it’s still daytime, disrupting your natural sleep cycle. Sometimes, jotting down any persistent thoughts or worries in a journal before bed can offload your mind and reduce nighttime rumination. Everyone’s brain handles the transition to sleep differently, so finding what works for you is key. These strategies not only address the ‘my brain when I’m trying to sleep’ struggle but also promote healthier sleep patterns over time.
