Book Review

Book name: That’s Not My Name

Author: Megan Lally

Genre: Thriller, Mystery, Suspense, Psychological Fiction

Intro: It was a mistake to trust him. Shivering and bruised, a teen wakes up on the side of a dirt road with no memory of how she got there—or who she is. A passing officer takes her to the police station, and not long after, a frantic man arrives. He's been searching for her for hours. He has her school ID, her birth certificate, and even family photos. He is her father. Her name is Mary. Or so he says. When Lola slammed the car door and stormed off into the night, Drew thought they just needed some time to cool off. Except Lola disappeared, and the sheriff, his friends, and the whole town are convinced Drew murdered his girlfriend. Forget proving his innocence, he needs to find her before it's too late. The longer Lola is missing, the fewer leads there are to follow…and the more danger they both are in.

My rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

My review: I really enjoyed this book! I could not put the book down and read it within two days. I don’t want to say too much and ruin the book for others but I did not expect the ending!

... Read moreHey bookworms! You know that feeling when you pick up a book and just can't put it down? That was exactly my experience with 'That's Not My Name' by Megan Lally. This psychological thriller grabbed me from the very first page and didn't let go until I'd devoured the last word. I literally finished it in two days, which says a lot because my reading pile is usually huge! The premise itself is brilliant and instantly drew me in. Imagine waking up on a dirt road, shivering and bruised, with absolutely no memory of who you are or how you got there. Then, a man appears, claiming to be your father, introducing you as Mary. But something just feels... off. At the same time, we follow Drew, desperately searching for his missing girlfriend, Lola, and facing accusations that he's responsible for her disappearance. Megan Lally masterfully weaves these two narratives together, creating a web of mystery and suspense that keeps you guessing. Every chapter left me questioning everything I thought I knew. One of the things I loved most about 'That's Not My Name' is how well Lally builds tension. The characters are complex, and their motives are constantly under scrutiny. You're left wondering who to trust, and that uncertainty is what makes psychological thrillers so addictive. It's not just a whodunit; it's a 'who is this person, and what really happened?' The author does an incredible job of exploring themes of identity, memory, and deception. For those wondering, 'That's Not My Name' is a work of fiction, purely from the brilliant mind of Megan Lally. While it dives deep into very real human emotions and fears, the story itself isn't based on a true crime or event, which actually allows for even more imaginative twists! And can we talk about the cover? Even before I opened it, the visual of the book, often depicted with a hand holding it against vibrant purple, yellow, and pink flowers, hinted at the dark beauty within. It’s striking and perfectly sets the mood without giving anything away. It's truly a book you'll want to display on your shelf after reading. If you're a fan of thrillers that keep you on the edge of your seat, with unexpected twists and characters you can't quite figure out, then you absolutely need to add 'That's Not My Name' to your reading list. It's a perfect read for a weekend when you just want to get lost in a story. Trust me, you won't be disappointed, especially with that jaw-dropping ending!
