I've wanted it done for a couple of years, so I went for it. Excited for it to heal! #dermal #piercing #dermalpiercings
I'm so thrilled to finally share that I got my dermal piercing! It's something I've wanted for a couple of years, and after a lot of research, I decided to go for it. For those who might be unfamiliar, a dermal piercing isn't like a traditional piercing that goes all the way through a body part. Instead, it's a single point entry where a small anchor is inserted just beneath the skin, with a decorative top visible on the surface. I chose a face dermal, specifically on my cheek, because I love the subtle sparkle it adds, and it feels like a perfect way to express my style. One of the biggest questions I had, and I’m sure many of you do too, is 'how long does a dermal take to heal?' This was a major part of my research before taking the plunge. From what I’ve gathered and what my piercer explained, the initial healing phase for a dermal piercing typically ranges from 6 to 12 weeks, but complete healing can take anywhere from 3 to 6 months, or even longer for some individuals. Factors like placement (a face dermal might be more exposed), individual body chemistry, and diligent aftercare play a huge role in this timeline. During these first few weeks, I’m being super careful. The healing process for a dermal is crucial to prevent rejection or infection. My piercer gave me a comprehensive aftercare routine, which I’m sticking to religiously. This includes gentle cleaning twice a day with a saline solution. It’s important to avoid touching the piercing with unwashed hands, and to be mindful of clothing, hair, or anything that could snag it, especially for a face dermal. I’ve also been advised to avoid makeup directly on or around the area during healing. I’m currently in the initial stages, and I've experienced a bit of redness and mild swelling around the piercing, which is totally normal. It’s not painful, but I can definitely feel it. I’m making sure to get enough rest and stay hydrated, as general health can really impact healing. I’ve read about potential issues like migration or rejection, where the body pushes the dermal out, and that's why meticulous aftercare is so vital. It’s a commitment, but I believe it will be worth it for the look I’ve always dreamed of. For anyone considering a face dermal piercing or any dermal, my biggest piece of advice so far is to find a reputable, experienced piercer and follow their aftercare instructions to the letter. Don't rush the healing process, and be patient! I’ll definitely be sharing updates on my journey, including how long it truly takes for my face dermal to heal and any tips or tricks I discover along the way to ensure a smooth recovery. Wish me luck!
