Things to study!

... Read moreHey fellow seekers! Finding your footing when you're just dipping your toes into the world of witchcraft can feel like navigating a vast, mystical library. There are so many paths and practices, it’s easy to get lost in all the "witch words" and concepts. That's why having a solid foundation, like the 19 topics mentioned in the image, is absolutely key to becoming a confident "baby witch" and beyond. One of the first things I realized on my journey was that "witchcraft" isn't a single, rigid practice. There are so many types of magick and witchcraft paths to explore! You might resonate with being a Green Witch, deeply connected to nature and herbalism, or a Kitchen Witch, infusing magic into daily meals and home life. Perhaps you're drawn to Elemental Witchcraft, working with earth, air, fire, and water, or even exploring ceremonial magick. Understanding these different styles helps you find what truly calls to your spirit. Don't feel pressured to pick one immediately; allow yourself to learn and see what fits best. Diving into the history of witchcraft was eye-opening for me. It’s not just about spells and potions; it's a rich tapestry of cultural practices, folklore, and resilience. Learning about its origins helps us practice respectfully and understand the roots of what we do today. This historical context also clarifies many of those ancient witch words and terms you might encounter. Then there are the deities. This can be a deeply personal aspect of witchcraft. Some witches work with specific gods or goddesses from various pantheons, while others connect with archetypal energies or the divine in nature. Researching different deities and traditions allows you to explore potential connections, but always remember to approach with respect and an open heart. It’s about building a relationship, not just ticking a box. My absolute favorite area to study has been herbs. The power of plants in witchcraft is incredible! From protective charms to healing tinctures, understanding the magical and medicinal properties of different herbs like rosemary for protection or lavender for calm is invaluable. Always, always, ensure you're identifying herbs correctly, sourcing them ethically, and understanding any safety precautions, especially if you're ingesting them. And let's not forget the moon phases! Working with the lunar cycle has profoundly impacted my practice. The New Moon is perfect for setting intentions, the Full Moon for potent spell work and gratitude, and the Waning Moon for banishing and releasing. Aligning my rituals with these phases helps amplify my intentions and connect me to a larger cosmic rhythm. For any modern witch, continuous learning is a celebration in itself. Every new piece of knowledge, every successful spell, every deeper connection to the craft feels like a personal "modern witch birthday"—a rebirth of understanding and self. So, take your time, explore these foundational topics, and let your curiosity guide you. This journey is uniquely yours, and every step you take to study and understand makes your magic stronger.
