Benefits of Displaying Your Kids’ Art

One of my favorite things about being a toddler mom is seeing the crafts she makes every week. I am the parent that will keep all of her artwork because I want to save them as moments in time.

Whenever Eliza makes a new craft, I ask her questions about what she made and act as if it’s the coolest piece of art I’ve ever seen. I can see the confidence build in her little smile, as she proudly hands me what she created.

I recommend displaying your kids artwork because:

🎨It can boost their self-esteem and creativity. Hanging their work gives them an opportunity to see, share, and take pride in what they made.

🎨It shows them that their efforts are valued, which provides them a sense of accomplishment

🎨It provides an opportunity for your child to converse about what they made, and strengthens the bond between you and your little one

I have a large storage bin that is dedicated to putting my kids arts and crafts so that I can hold onto it for years and years. One day, they will be my favorite things to look back on 🖌️🖼️

... Read moreAs parents, our homes often become a vibrant, albeit sometimes chaotic, gallery of our children's masterpieces. From glitter-laden paintings to adorable toilet paper roll snowmen, the sheer volume of their creations can be overwhelming! But beyond the charming clutter, there's profound importance in how we choose to acknowledge and display our kids' artwork. It's more than just decor; it's a powerful tool for their development. One of the biggest 'aha!' moments I had as a parent was realizing the sheer boost a displayed drawing gives my child's confidence. Imagine the sparkle in their eyes when they see their latest creation proudly taking center stage. This simple act tells them, 'Your ideas matter. Your efforts are valued. You are capable.' This isn't just about praising their art; it's about validating their very being and encouraging that innate creativity. When we reflect on their art creation, like a colorful necklace made in a toddler class, we're not just admiring the object; we're witnessing their learning process, their choices, and their burgeoning understanding of the world. It’s an unspoken affirmation that empowers them to keep exploring and expressing themselves. Beyond self-esteem, displaying art opens up wonderful avenues for connection. I've found that asking my child about their drawing – 'What's happening here?' or 'Tell me about this bright blue color!' – sparks incredibly rich conversations. It strengthens our bond, helping them articulate their thoughts and feelings, and allowing me a peek into their imaginative world. It's an 'art show idea' right in our living room, fostering communication far beyond just admiring a pretty picture. Now, for the practical side, because let's face it, we can't keep everything on the fridge forever! While the refrigerator door is a classic for a reason, having extra magnets on hand and making it a rotating gallery is a great way to celebrate daily creations without overwhelming the space. I personally love using simple clip frames for kids' art. These are fantastic because they make it easy to swap out masterpieces, giving each new piece its moment in the spotlight. You can create a dedicated 'kids art gallery' wall in a hallway or playroom using a string and clothespins, or even install magnetic strips at their eye level. This makes art accessible and interactive for them. And what about the pieces we can't display? That's where smart storage comes in. I've adopted a 'one in, one out' rule for certain pieces, or I designate a special art bin for seasonal or particularly meaningful creations. Taking photos of their artwork is another brilliant solution – you can create digital albums or even turn them into personalized photo books that become cherished keepsakes. Imagine looking back at their evolving artistic journey through the years! Ultimately, celebrating our children's art, whether it's a finger painting or a more elaborate craft, is truly one of the most rewarding aspects of parenting. It shows them that their unique perspective is cherished, nurturing their confidence, fostering communication, and building beautiful memories that last a lifetime. It's a small gesture with an immeasurable impact on their little hearts and minds.
