This year I grew so many herbs from seeds and failed at many too, mostly due to me being a little lackadaisical. (It wasn't me, just my mind not letting me get up and water them, lol!) But I succeeded with so many, and peppermint was one of them. Needless to say, I'm excited!
Next year I'm coming for lavender 😂
Growing herbs from seeds can be a rewarding experience, but it certainly comes with its challenges. From my personal journey, I found that consistency, especially in watering, plays a crucial role in the success or failure of the seedlings. I remember times when I was a bit lazy to tend to my plants daily, and it reflected in the growth of some herbs that unfortunately didn't make it. However, peppermint proved to be particularly resilient. Its hearty nature makes it a great choice for beginners and those who might not have the most regimented care routine. What I learned is that peppermint not only thrives with moderate care but also spreads easily, adding vibrant greenery to your garden. Looking ahead, I am excited to try growing lavender next year. Lavender requires a bit different care compared to peppermint — it prefers well-drained soil and plenty of sunlight, and it doesn't like overwatering. Planning better this time, I intend to create a schedule to stay consistent with watering and monitor the soil moisture carefully. For anyone else starting with herb gardening, my advice is to select easy-to-grow herbs like mint or basil first. Pay attention to their specific needs, especially water and light. Using reminders or setting up a simple watering system might help overcome those days when motivation dips. Also, don't be discouraged by failures—every plant that doesn't thrive teaches you something new about gardening. Ultimately, growing herbs from seeds is a fulfilling hobby that combines patience, learning, and a bit of trial and error. Plus, you get the added joy of fresh herbs right at your fingertips, whether for cooking, teas, or even natural home remedies.
