Hot Pork Bun (BAO)

Simple Bao Recipe for Rainy Days or Cold Days

Servings: 8–10 buns

Ingredients:

For the Dough:

• 2 cups all-purpose flour

• 1 teaspoon instant yeast

• 1 tablespoon sugar

• 2/3 cup warm water

• 1 tablespoon vegetable oil

For the Filling:

• 1/2 pound ground pork

• 1 tablespoon soy sauce

• 1 teaspoon sugar

• 1 teaspoon sesame oil

• 1 clove garlic, minced

Instructions:

1. Make the Dough:

1. Mix warm water, sugar, and yeast in a bowl. Let it sit for 5 minutes.

2. Add flour and oil. Mix until a dough forms.

3. Knead on a floured surface for 5 minutes until smooth. Cover and let it rise for 1 hour.

2. Prepare the Filling:

1. Combine ground pork, soy sauce, sugar, sesame oil, and garlic in a bowl. Mix well.

3. Assemble the Bao:

1. Divide the dough into 8–10 pieces. Flatten each into a small circle.

2. Add a spoonful of filling to the center, pinch the edges to seal, and form a bun.

4. Steam the Bao:

1. Place buns on parchment squares in a steamer.

2. Steam over boiling water for 15 minutes.
