Beginning of College vs. the End 🤍

Looking back, I feel like I have grown so much throughout the past 4 years. The first photo (very awkward first day of school picture is a right of passage at this point 😭)I was fresh out of high school, excited for a new start, and had no idea what kind of opportunities I would get to experience.

Flash forward to the last photo - I’ve finally accomplished one of my biggest life goals and I’m about to begin my new life with the career of my dreams.

Not only was this a huge accomplishment for me, but for my family is well, as a first-gen student coming from an African household, I have lived up to the high expectations everyone had always envisioned for me. One quote I feel that stands true for me is “I am my parents’ wildest dreams”.

Although it wasn’t easy trying to decipher what I wanted vs. what everyone else wanted for me, imposter syndrome, balancing school and work, etc, I still managed to accomplish so much and I made myself and everyone else around me proud.

Congratulations to everyone else graduating this year! 🎉

... Read moreEntering college as a fresh-faced student can be both exciting and daunting. Many first-generation college students face unique challenges, such as navigating campus life without family guidance. Overcoming imposter syndrome and balancing responsibilities can be tough, but it fosters personal growth. Research shows that connecting with mentors and joining supportive communities, such as first-gen student organizations, can enhance your college experience and help you thrive. Graduation is a monumental milestone that signifies the culmination of hard work and dedication. It’s a time for reflection, not just on academic achievements, but on personal victories against challenges faced throughout the years. Celebrating with friends and family adds to the joy, creating lasting memories. Resources like counseling centers and academic advisors can guide students through this transition, ensuring a smooth transition into the workforce or further education. Embrace your journey and cherish every moment of your unique educational experience!
