My son pulled my lemon tree out! Our lemon tree isn’t growing! I oddly put stones at the bottom and then I did research on why my tree isn’t growing. We had to take everything out and take all the stone out and then we repotted the tree! It definitely wasn’t thriving, you can see the roots were very loose and wasn’t growing to any of the soil. Lemon trees don’t like wet feet, the stones kept the bottom soil soaked. Hopefully after we repot her, she’ll grow and provide tons of lemons! 🍋 #lemontree #meyerlemontree #growing
From my experience with repotting my lemon tree, I've learned that drainage is crucial for its health. Although many gardeners recommend placing stones at the bottom of pots to improve drainage, this can actually trap water and cause the roots to stay overly wet, leading to root rot. Instead, using well-draining soil designed for citrus plants helps the roots breathe and encourages stronger growth. Another tip is to ensure your lemon tree pot has sufficient drainage holes and avoid overwatering. I noticed the soil remained soggy for days due to the stones trapping moisture, which made the roots loose and unhealthy. After repotting with fresh soil and no stones, my tree started showing signs of improvement. Also, placing the lemon tree in a sunny spot with good air circulation accelerates its growth. Meyer lemon trees, in particular, thrive best in bright indirect sunlight or partial shade in hotter climates. Regularly checking the roots for firmness and soil moisture can help prevent future problems. Patience is key when reviving a struggling lemon tree—the roots may take time to stabilize and start absorbing nutrients effectively. I’m hopeful mine will soon bloom with vibrant lemons after making these changes. This hands-on experience taught me that sometimes popular gardening myths, like always putting stones at the bottom of pots, don’t apply to every plant species. Being observant and adapting care accordingly can make all the difference in successful lemon tree cultivation.
