low maintenance relationships >>>

hi zesties! 🍋 today i wanna share about my past and current mentality about time spent with your partner and how quality > quantity

i used to think that being in a LOVING r/s meant needing to be around each other all the time. texting non stop, meeting at least 4-5 times a week, falling asleep on the phone together. and that was exactly what my boyfie and i did. and i guess it's because back then, i didn’t realise I was just chasing constant validation. i thought that having all these, is what makes a relationship feel “secure"

and this was our arrangement for 2-3 months. until i got out of my funemployed phase and started working. my boyfie also got busy with his own work/projects. and just like that, suddenly we were meeting less and less

and it wasn't a nice feeling because it made me spiral many times, thinking that our busy schedules would lead to us drifting apart and eventually we'd be strangers in no time (ok that's a bit of a stretch but that's me overthinking)

but hear me out: over time, i learnt something really important and that is:

💗 less time together doesn’t mean less love for each other 💗

these days, we only meet about 2 times a week (some times only once 😅) and i just know that the old me would see this as a negative change. but this shift has helped us both grow so much. it taught us how to be more independent, and it gave us space to miss each other (distance makes the heart grow fonder fr)

we still do call at night on days we don't meet, but if one of us is feeling tired, or busy with work, or outside hanging with friends, we've learnt to take a step back and be comfortable with settling over text 🙂‍↕️

meeting 1-2x a week isnt the end of the world... real love isn’t about being together 24/7. it’s about knowing you’re both still choosing each other, even when life gets busy

so if you’re currently going through this shift in your relationship, just know it doesn’t automatically mean something’s wrong! work with your partner for a suitable arrangement instead. i mean, life can be really unpredictable so learning how to adapt to changes with your partner is important 💯

and once you've overcome this challenge, it's how you know that you’re both growing 🫶

From my experience, embracing a low-maintenance relationship means recognizing that love isn't measured by constant communication or frequent meetups but by mutual trust, respect, and understanding. One valuable lesson I've learned is the importance of honest conversations about expectations. When my partner and I became busier with work, adjusting our time together was inevitable. Instead of letting anxiety take over, we talked openly about our schedules, feelings, and how we could support each other despite less frequent contact. Another key aspect is cultivating independence without emotional distance. Having hobbies, friendships, and personal goals outside the relationship enriches our bond and reduces the pressure to be 'always available.' This creates healthy space where we miss each other genuinely and appreciate the moments we do share even more. I also realized that being low maintenance doesn’t mean being uninvolved. We still make efforts to check in regularly, cheer each other on, and maintain intimacy through calls or messages when we can’t meet in person. This thoughtful approach keeps our connection alive without overwhelming either of us. Finally, this relationship style works best when both partners share similar values about love and time. Mutual understanding prevents assumptions and helps navigate busy seasons together with patience and grace. Embracing a low-maintenance relationship has truly helped my partner and me grow individually and as a couple. It’s not about how often we see each other, but about knowing that we’re both choosing and supporting each other, no matter how hectic life gets.

I have worked decades. No one is ever so busy that they don’t have time to eat or go to the toilet or to pickup a call. No one expects at the early stage to spend 3 hours every night but to say we can’t spend 5 to 15 minutes to catch is just an excuse or it shows the priority of the other person. Technology is so convenient that making a video call can be done on the phone. At end of the day, who is more important? chat about gaming with friends (for guys) or the latest K-pop gossip (for girls) or have a daily catchup with your BF/GF?

EP: Our Low Maintenance Relationship
She thought he was being “low maintenance”. That was her first mistake. They met and he immediately went: “I’m not those demanding type. I'm the easy-going one.” At the start, everything was smooth. Where to eat? “Anything.” What movie? “You choose.” Weekend plans? “Up to you.”

It has been six months since we started this relationship, and I can truly see the effort he has put in to make it work. He may not be earning much, especially with how tough the economy is right now, but honestly, that part doesn’t matter to me. What matters is that he’s trying his best—and I do a
