Let’s talk… GENDER DISAPPOINTMENT!
Gender disappointment may or may not be a term that you are familiar with, but it is a pretty common thing!
Gender disappointment is when you find out the gender of your baby and, just like it sounds, you feel some amount of disappointment.
It is common for parents to feel guilty about this disappointment because you don’t want to come across as ungrateful or disappointed IN your baby.
I have found that it is a lot more common in parents who find out the gender of their baby before they are born. Most of the time if you wait to find out the gender until birth you are so excited to meet and see your baby that you don’t feel that disappointment as much.
I just wanted to give some encouragement to those parents that feel or have felt this gender disappointment. There is nothing wrong with you and you aren’t a bad parent if you feel this way!
If you think about it like this, when you go out to ice cream and you have to pick a flavor, sometimes you can still feel disappointed! Both flavors are delicious but there is always some sort of disappointment when there are multiple options.
