“This sounds like me but if I was autistic..”

1/25 Edited to

... Read moreLiving with autism, especially as a woman, often means navigating a world that misunderstands the condition. Many assume autism always presents visibly with clear physical and social difficulties early in life, but for many women, including myself, it’s much subtler and can feel invisible. I’ve experienced the exhausting effort of constantly adapting—watching others carefully to learn social cues, hiding behaviors that might seem unusual, and carrying the weight of confusion and feeling alien in social settings. This has often contributed to isolating feelings but recognizing and accepting this difference has been transformative. Autism in women frequently doesn’t align with the stereotypical signs seen in males and can be deeply masked by coping mechanisms, which leads to missed or late diagnosis. For me, and many others, this meant living with a constant inner struggle without understanding why. However, gaining this knowledge has allowed me to care for my body and brain with empathy instead of judgment. It has taught me that functioning doesn’t mean the absence of difficulty—it means learning to thrive differently. This journey has also helped me build meaningful connections, even if my support network looks different from traditional expectations. The message I want to share with others is that autism is not a deficit to fear but a different way of experiencing the world. Acceptance leads to survival, growth, and creating a beautiful life on your own terms. Checking in on loved ones, acknowledging diverse experiences of autism, particularly in women and those with co-occurring ADHD (AUDHD), can foster more understanding and support within communities. Remember, different is okay, and your unique path is valid. Embracing this can empower you to live authentically and with compassion for yourself and others.

Autistic girl guide to navigating theme parks
One of my special interests is theme parks. I never got to go to any of the big ones as a kid, but I remember going to smaller theme parks on road trips with my family. Sometime after my spouse proposed, I became even more interested, and fell in love with Disneyland, Disney World and Universal

Potty Training Your Autistic Child- Tip #3
Potty training an autistic child can feel overwhelming. But you are not behind, and you are not alone. 💛 Making the potty a safe space can make a huge difference, because sometimes just getting them to feel comfortable with the potty is half the battle. Progress matters more than perfection.

How clothing effects me as an autistic girly
Honestly, I only leave my house a couple of times each week, and when I do, I like to look cute. But looking cute can also be comfy, which is something I require as an autistic ADHDer. My rules? NO scratchy tags, no jeans and no heels. I did that for a long time and all I got was grouchy and ove

Healing as an autistic ADHDer
Prior to my diagnoses, I felt overall like an unhealed person. Aside from the trauma I experienced throughout my life, I just generally felt a bit out of place. Looking back, it’s likely because I didn’t know I was autistic or ADHD. And because of this, I didn’t have the accommodations in place

Some might say, "if you're so overwhelmed, why did you have kids in the first place?" And truthfully? I had no idea I was autistic or ADHD before having children. How was I supposed to know I would be in a chronic state of overwhelm every day? And besides that, parents are allowed to
