Savings Update

Hey y’all! I just wanted to check in and give an update on my savings journey!

So far I’ve paid off the balance on my credit card ($2200) and grew my savings to $4200 from $0.

I have consistently been saving $1408 a month which will put my total savings for the year at $18.5k. It’s more than my original goal but, a little extra money doesn’t hurt.

I do want to put out there that I have very few bills!

That being said don’t compare your savings journey to anyone else’s. I was paying about $600 of bills and that has gone up to about $1300 since I got a new car which will take effect in the 2nd quarter but it shouldn’t affect my savings goal.

2 things I’ve learned since starting:

It actually helps when you can see where your money is going! I document reoccurring charges and the amounts so that I know what to expect!

I noticed that I was faithfully paying for subscriptions and services I no longer needed.

I check my account and transaction history daily just in case something slips through the cracks.

I also realized that just because there’s money left in your account when your new pay check deposits doesn’t mean it’s free money! You still have to budget that roll over money. Sometimes I’ll just roll the extra into my savings or sometimes I’ll pay a bill early. I don’t use it on self care because those things all already pre planned and budgeted for.

See ya next quarter❤️

... Read moreIt's so easy to get caught up in comparing your savings journey to others, isn't it? I know I've been there! When I first started, looking at those perfectly curated financial feeds felt intimidating. But let me tell you, the biggest victory is just starting and finding what works for *you*. My own journey from $0 to $4200 in my 360 Performance Savings account wasn't about grand gestures, but consistent, small actions that added up. One of the game-changers for me has been truly embracing my mobile banking app. You know how those 'savings account balance screens' look? Seeing my balance grow on my phone, just like the one I shared where my 360 Performance Savings account hit $4,226.85, makes all the difference. It's not just a number; it's a visual representation of progress! I literally check my app daily – not obsessively, but just a quick peek. This habit has been crucial for two reasons: First, it keeps me accountable and motivated. When I see that number steadily climbing, it fuels my desire to keep going. Second, it helps me catch things immediately. I can spot recurring charges I might have forgotten about, or even identify subscriptions I no longer use. I realized I was faithfully paying for so many services I didn't even remember signing up for! Cancelling those freed up a surprising amount of money each month. Another struggle I overcame was the 'free money' fallacy. You know, when your new paycheck hits, and there's some leftover from the previous period? It's so tempting to think 'bonus spending money!' But that's where I learned to be strict. That rollover money isn't free; it’s an opportunity. Sometimes I'll immediately transfer it straight into my savings – boosting that 360 Performance Savings account balance even more! Other times, if I know a bigger bill is coming up, I'll use it to pay a portion of it early, giving myself a head start. It’s all about being intentional. This strategy helps turn what could be a spending temptation into another step forward in my financial planning. And speaking of planning, while I don't have a fancy 'financial planning savings growth chart' printed out, my mental chart is always updating as I see my balance increase. It's incredibly motivating to visualize that growth, just like watching a chart creep upwards. It makes me feel more in control and confident about reaching my bigger goals like that $18.5k target. My biggest advice? Don't get discouraged by setbacks. There will be months where unexpected expenses pop up, or your bill load temporarily increases (like mine did with my new car!). The key is to acknowledge it, adjust, and get right back on track. Your savings journey is uniquely yours, and every small win is worth celebrating!
