Two Books I Read This Week 📕

🧛🏻‍♂️ The Gathering by C.J. Tudor

A standard, procedural murder mystery. Except… our main character is a Vampire Forensic anthropologist and maybe a vampire killed the victim. Heck yes. Hope this is the first in a series.

👿 Phantoms by Dean Koontz

Finally read my first Dean Koontz! Went in expecting something sci-fi thriller-y and instead got fantastical horror?? I had to think about it, but I’ve decided on three stars. My reading experience was fairly middle of the road, but I’m intrigued to read more from Koontz.

In 'The Gathering', Tudor introduces a unique protagonist—a vampire forensic anthropologist. This innovative angle adds depth to the murder mystery plot, enticing readers who enjoy both crime thrillers and fantasy. The story's setting and character development hint at exciting possibilities for a series, making it a must-read for fans of the genre. On the other hand, Dean Koontz's 'Phantoms' takes an unexpected turn from typical sci-fi thrillers, venturing into a realm of fantastical horror. This genre-blending narrative may challenge readers' expectations, but it serves as a testament to Koontz’s versatility. Whether you're exploring ghostly themes or contemplating deep philosophical questions about humanity, his work offers a rich reading experience. Both authors excel at creating suspenseful atmospheres that keep readers engaged. As you dive into these novels, consider how they reflect contemporary fears and societal issues, such as isolation and the struggle of the human spirit against darkness. Don't miss out on these enriching reads—explore their worlds and let your imagination roam!
