I’ve actually posted this before, but I’ll happily post it again. Grand Designs SRT came out to test it for frame failure right after this and it failed every test and GD would NOT let him open it up in front of us.
People have asked what to look out for, that would be doors not shutting properly, creaky floors and creaking while being towed, new seals being pulled apart, the front slide struggling to get in and out, water in the nose, hydraulic legs kicking outward, and the pin box moving like this.
If you have these, join the Grand Design Major Issues on FB and tell Pete I said hello, he and his wife are phenomenal and so helpful. Also… I’m sorry 🫂
If you own a Grand Design RV, it’s crucial to be aware of the warning signs that may indicate serious frame issues. Many owners have reported problems such as doors that don’t shut properly, creaking noises while driving or being towed, and seals that begin to pull apart. These symptoms often point to structural concerns that shouldn’t be ignored. One particularly alarming issue involves the front slide mechanism struggling to retract or extend. This often indicates that the frame is flexing or that internal components are under stress. Additionally, water accumulation in the nose of the RV can lead to long-term damage if not addressed promptly. Another sign to watch for is the hydraulic leveling legs exhibiting unusual movements, such as kicking outward. This can be a clue that the frame is warped or compromised. Similarly, if the pin box—the critical connection point between your tow vehicle and the RV—feels loose or moves excessively, it’s a red flag. If you experience any of these symptoms, connecting with the "Grand Design Major Issues" Facebook community can be invaluable. This group offers a wealth of shared experiences from fellow owners, expert advice, and direct contact with individuals like Pete and his wife who are known for their support and dedication to helping others navigate these challenges. Always prioritize safety and regular maintenance. Early detection and prompt action can prevent small frame problems from escalating into costly repairs. Consider scheduling professional inspections if you notice persistent creaks or difficulty with your RV’s structural components. Your RV investment and personal safety depend on it.
