talking about my experience and tips getting upper lip electrolysis as a mtf trans woman. here's what I learned and will be doing going forward to make the experience a bit more comfortable
Having gone through upper lip electrolysis myself, I know how daunting the process can feel, especially as an MTF trans woman navigating hair removal to support your gender expression. One of the key takeaways from my treatments was the importance of effective pain management. Using a numbing cream about an hour before the session significantly eased discomfort. It's also helpful to take a combination of Advil and Tylenol beforehand, as they block different pain receptors and provide better relief together. During the session, the technician may reapply the numbing cream to different parts of your upper lip to keep pain at bay, which makes longer sessions more bearable. Starting with a shorter 30-minute session helped me build tolerance, and I gradually increased to 45 minutes per visit, which seemed ideal for effective hair removal without excessive pain. Frequency plays a big role too. Weekly sessions worked well initially to target the dense hair growth, but as the hair thinned out, spacing appointments to every two or three weeks felt more sustainable. In total, expect the process to take about a year and a half to see full results with minimal regrowth. Another thing I found valuable was maintaining realistic expectations: electrolysis can be uncomfortable at times, but the gradual progress and the confidence boost from reduced upper lip hair made the effort worthwhile. Plus, choosing a technician who is understanding and skilled can make a huge difference in your comfort and results. For anyone considering upper lip electrolysis, I recommend preparing mentally and physically by planning pain management strategies and committing to the treatment schedule. Remember, each session is a step closer to a smoother, hair-free upper lip aligned with your gender identity.
