Exam Week..

I wish I could say I have some tips on how to survive exam week, but I kinda don’t :’)

these last two weeks for me have been nothing but studying for my exams. Which has definitely contributed to me almost burning out.

I have 2 map final projects that are due and it’s super stressful. Finals week is really testing me, but I should hopefully be able to power through and pass my classes.

Tips for surviving in general-

🩷Eat and drink water.

I know that sounds self explanatory but it’s kinda common for some to stop eating when they’re deep in their study zone. (Me included)

🩷 SLEEP.

All nighters seem helpful, but I’ve found that they can hurt more than they do. When I have done them they have screwed up my next day and sleep schedule, which can be hard to correct again. I would recommend avoiding all-nighters (especially the night before an exam!!) as much as possible. One of my professors told me that our brain processes information through sleep, so we need it. It’s hard to learn without it.

🩷 be patient with yourself.

It’s rough out here. You’re probably not going to be perfect. All that matters is that you do what you can. It’s not about knowing everything, it’s about knowing enough of it :)

... Read moreOkay, friends, let's get real about the 'how to improve scores for seven subjects in one week' dilemma. I hear you, and I've definitely been there! While it feels like an impossible mission to master everything in such a short timeframe, I've picked up some strategies that don't guarantee a perfect score but will absolutely maximize your chances when time is tight. First things first: you can't learn everything. So, prioritization is key! Grab your syllabi, old quizzes, and assignment feedback. What topics consistently appear? What areas do you struggle with the most? Focus your energy on those high-yield topics. For instance, if you have a 'COMMUNICATION COURSE' exam, identify the core theories or practical application questions that carry the most weight, rather than trying to re-read every single chapter. Forget passively re-reading notes – your brain learns by retrieving information. Active recall is your best friend right now. Create flashcards (digital or physical), self-quiz constantly, or try explaining concepts aloud to an imaginary friend. Even if it’s just 10-15 minutes per subject, active recall is far more effective than an hour of passive reading. It forces your brain to work and solidify those memories. If your professor provides practice exams or study guides, DO THEM. Seriously, these are usually the closest thing you'll get to the actual exam format and question types. Doing practice questions helps you identify gaps in your knowledge and get comfortable with the pressure and timing. It's a game-changer for understanding what to expect. With seven subjects looming, you can't dedicate hours to each. Break down your study time into short, focused bursts. The Pomodoro Technique (25 minutes of focused work, 5 minutes break) works wonders. Rotate subjects to keep your brain fresh and prevent mental fatigue. This way, you touch upon each subject regularly without getting overwhelmed. Don't be afraid to leverage all available resources. Use office hours for quick questions about confusing topics. Look for summary videos or alternative explanations online – sometimes a different perspective just clicks. And if you have a study group, make sure it’s productive: test each other, explain concepts, and clarify doubts, rather than just chatting. If you're still reviewing extensive notes, try to condense them. Create 'cheat sheets' (if allowed!) or mind maps with only the absolute essential information, formulas, or key definitions. This process forces you to process and summarize, which is a powerful form of active learning and helps highlight what you really need to remember. My original post mentioned sleep for survival, but for *improving scores*, it's utterly non-negotiable. Your brain literally consolidates memories and processes information during sleep. Pulling all-nighters might feel productive in the moment, but you'll likely perform worse on the actual exam because your memory recall, problem-solving skills, and focus will be severely impaired. Aim for consistent sleep, even if it's just 6-7 hours, to give your brain a chance to lock in what you've studied. And yes, eating nutritious food and staying hydrated aren't just for general survival – they're crucial for optimal brain function! Don't skip meals or rely solely on sugary snacks that lead to energy crashes. A well-fed, well-hydrated brain is a well-performing brain, providing the sustained energy you need to concentrate and recall information effectively. Finally, and this is super important: be kind to yourself. You're doing your absolute best with a challenging situation. A positive mindset, even when you're stressed, can make a huge difference. Focus on what you can do and the progress you're making, rather than dwelling on what you haven't mastered. You've got this!
