i wasn’t prepared for my c section recovery

my first baby was born naturally. and i knew there would be a difference, but NOTHING prepares you for recovery from a c section. you can read about it and yet nothing compares to what you have to face.

my c section recovery was speedy, but the mobility and pain really caught up to me! i was out of the hospital in a day, and i was up and out of the hose within a week. although i still had help to get up: out of bed, from sitting down, you name it.

🚼 pain and mobility

don’t disregard your medication and don’t try to “tough it out” do yourself a favor sis, it’s really not worth the pain 🤣 ask for HELP and don’t overdue it. wear a belly binder or wrap to help you feel like everything is still in place.

🚼incision care

highly recommend to ditch the “c section recovery videos and posts” don’t get certain items unless recommend by your doctor. there was so many things i thought i needed but my doctor said no. especially to the silicone scar strips.

🚼movement

try to get up and walk short distances. but ONLY do what you can and don’t force anything. walking will help your incision close and prevent blood clots.

🚼sleep set up

make sure you have EVERY THING YOU NEED. for you and baby. it’s crazy enough to get up, so it’s better for you to have everything you and baby need, that’s in reach! (highly recommend the mobile tier carts!)

💗and it’s okay to ask for help when grabbing your baby! you’re not bugging anyone. get an adjustable bassinet so you can keep baby next to you at a height that you’re able to grab them.

... Read moreRecovering from a C-section can be a uniquely challenging experience that often catches new mothers off guard. Unlike natural birth, a C-section involves major abdominal surgery, requiring careful attention to pain management and mobility limitations. Many women underestimate how much help they'll need, not just in the hospital but once home. Pain and mobility issues from a C-section are real and persistent. Taking your prescribed medications as directed is crucial—avoiding unnecessary pain can speed healing and prevent complications. It's vital to avoid trying to 'tough it out' since overexertion may lead to increased pain or injury. Wearing a belly binder or abdominal wrap can provide extra support, promoting comfort and helping you feel more secure as your body heals. Caring for your incision properly is another essential element of recovery. Although the internet offers countless tips and products, not all are recommended by medical professionals. Consulting your doctor before trying treatments like silicone scar strips or special creams ensures you use only what's safe and effective. Gentle movement, such as short walks, stimulates circulation and helps prevent blood clots, which are a risk after surgery. However, listen to your body and avoid pushing yourself too hard too soon. Gradually increasing your activity level can support healing and reduce stiffness. Setting up your sleep and living areas to keep essentials within arm's reach will make nighttime feedings and diaper changes easier, requiring minimal strain and movement. Mobile tier carts and adjustable bassinets are practical tools that can significantly reduce the physical stress of caring for your newborn while you heal. Finally, it’s important to remember that asking for help is not a sign of weakness. Whether it’s lifting, breastfeeding support, or emotional encouragement, accepting assistance can make your recovery smoother and promote bonding with your baby. By understanding these aspects and preparing accordingly, mothers can manage their recovery more comfortably and confidently, turning an overwhelming experience into one of healing and growth.
