I’m trying to be a nice killer 😭 | DBD

So you're stepping into the killer's shoes in Dead by Daylight? It's a whole different game from survivor, and honestly, it can be intimidating! Even someone like me, who tries to be a 'friendly killer,' knows you need to understand the basics first. My goal is usually to have fun and sometimes let survivors go, but to do that effectively, you still need to know how to be a killer in the first place. First off, don't underestimate the importance of learning map layouts. I've learned that even when you're trying to be nice and maybe let a few survivors off the hook (literally!), map control is key. Knowing where generators are, understanding patrol routes – it's crucial. I often find myself traversing the map, looking for clues, even if my ultimate goal isn't always a 4k. Keeping tabs on where survivors usually run helps you cut them off, or at least predict their next moves. Selecting your killer and their perks is a huge part of the 'how to be killer' puzzle. Early on, I experimented with different killers to find one that fit my style. Even if I'm trying my hardest to let some survivors go, I still pick perks that help me find them or slow the game down. Perks like Barbecue & Chili are great for finding other survivors after a hook, which is helpful even if you're not planning to immediately chase them down. Information is power, even for a friendly killer! Chasing can be tricky, and it's where your killer's unique power comes into play. It's about predicting movements and using your ability effectively. For example, if you're playing a killer with a 'charge vine attack' or similar powerful move, knowing when and where to use it can end a chase quickly, even if you then decide to be merciful. Don't be afraid to practice your basic attacks and power usage; the better you are at the fundamentals, the more control you have over the outcome, whether it's a brutal down or a gentle nudge away from the hook. Now, for the 'friendly' part. Even when I'm in full chase mode, sometimes I 'won't keep them' if they play exceptionally well, or if I just feel like being generous. It's a balance, right? You want to practice your killer skills, but also have fun and maybe spread a little joy (or terror, followed by mercy!). The OCR images saying "TRYING MY HARDEST TO LET SOME SURVIVORS GO" really resonates with my experience. It actually is hard sometimes, especially when you get into the flow of the game. Ultimately, whether you're aiming for a 4k every game or just trying to be a 'nice killer' like me, understanding the fundamentals of being a killer in DBD will make your matches more enjoyable and impactful. Don't be afraid to experiment with different killers, perks, and playstyles to find what works for you!
