For example, monitoring for intimate partner violence (IPV) is often overlooked but can have profound effects on pregnancy outcomes. Pregnant women experiencing IPV face higher risks of inadequate weight gain and preterm birth, emphasizing the need for compassionate psychosocial assessments. Body Mass Index (BMI) is another significant factor. Obesity and severe obesity during pregnancy bring about challenges like gestational diabetes, hypertension, and higher cesarean rates, affecting both maternal and newborn health. Addressing social determinants such as access to nutritious food and opportunities for physical activity can make a notable difference in preventing excessive weight gain during pregnancy. Amniotic fluid volume also deserves attention: both polyhydramnios (excess fluid) and oligohydramnios (low fluid) can indicate underlying fetal abnormalities or placental issues. Tracking the amniotic fluid index along with fetal movements can provide reassurance about fetal well-being or signal the need for further intervention. Lastly, the importance of collaborative, family-centered care cannot be overstated. Incorporating the physical, psychological, and social needs of the mother with involvement from family and healthcare professionals creates a supportive environment that promotes positive outcomes.
