... Read moreMenstruation is a highly personal experience, and finding the right way to manage your period can make a significant difference in comfort and confidence. From my personal journey, I've found that experimenting with different methods during shark week helped me understand what works best for my body and lifestyle. One method that intrigued me was free bleeding, which means choosing to forgo pads or tampons and allow the menstrual flow to happen naturally, often using waterproof bedsheets and towels to prevent stains. Initially, I was skeptical about the practicality of sleeping nude and free bleeding overnight. However, setting up an impermeable layer beneath my regular sheets and adding an extra towel made the experience manageable and surprisingly freeing. On the other hand, conventional products like pads and tampons are still my go-tos when I need extra security, especially during heavy flow days. Yet, I noticed increased irritation and cramping when using some brands, which pushed me to explore organic and chemical-free options to reduce potential toxicity concerns mentioned in some communities. It's also worth noting the psychological aspect of this. Asking yourself whether you want to 'go commando' or rely on products tied to health fears and pain experiences is part of reclaiming control over your menstrual health. The conversation around what goes inside the product and its entry into the bloodstream provides legitimate concerns, motivating me to prioritize safer alternatives. Engaging in #periodtalk with others online and offline has helped broaden my perspective, offering me support and new ideas. Whether you choose to free bleed or stick to traditional products, what matters most is comfort, health, and what feels right for you during your cycle.
