Week three of my poppy
Painting the poppy flower with watercolors over three weeks has truly been a rewarding experience. During the third week, I focused more on layering colors to achieve the delicate gradients and subtle textures that poppies are known for. Watercolor as a medium requires patience and a gentle touch, especially when working on floral subjects where soft transitions are key. I started by observing real poppies to understand their petal shapes and color variations. Using transparent washes helped me capture the natural delicacy, while adding details with a smaller brush brought out the intricate veins and highlights. I found that allowing the paint to dry between layers helped prevent colors from muddying, preserving the brightness that poppies display in sunlight. Engaging with hashtags like #watercolor, #paintingtok, and #painttherapy has connected me with a community of artists sharing similar journeys. Their feedback and tips encouraged me to try new brush techniques and explore different ways to blend colors effectively. For anyone embarking on a watercolor floral project, my advice is to embrace the learning process week by week. Document your progress and stay open to experimentation. Watercolor flowers, such as poppies, teach patience and mindfulness, turning painting sessions into therapeutic moments that nourish creativity and relaxation.
