Gluten Free Snacks at Whole Foods✨

Backstory: my boyfriend of 5 years has recently been diagnosed with Celiac’s Disease, and we have been searching high and low for some yummy snack ideas. I decided that shifting my lifestyle to accommodate him was the path I wanted to take, not only for his safety, but in general for mine too!

Turns out, a lot of food that already incorporates gluten also has a lot of poor ingredient choices! So, here are some options we found from Whole Foods.

As a reminder, ALWAYS check your labels if you have a gluten allergy/CD!

1: 365 brand vanilla sandwich cookies

These honestly don’t taste any different to me than golden Oreos taste, they are SO so good!

2: Maxine’s Heavenly oatmeal cream sandwiches

If you like oatmeal cream pies, you will 100% like these, and not only are they gluten-free, they also have prebiotic fiber!

3: Drizzilicious Rice Snack Bites

These don’t really need an explanation, but they are phenomenal! I definitely recommend the birthday cake ones as they are my favorite:)

4: Unreal chocolate covered pretzels

I do like these, but they do have a bit of a crunch, more so than regular pretzels. They also have a funky breading taste, but if you don’t care about the taste of the pretzel, then you’re good!

I quickly learned that while some stores have a small, dedicated section, Whole Foods often integrates GF options throughout various aisles, which can be a treasure hunt! Most Whole Foods stores have a 'Specialty Diet' or 'Health & Wellness' aisle, and that's usually where you'll find a significant concentration of gluten-free alternatives for things like pasta, bread, and baking mixes. However, don't limit your search there! Many everyday sections, like snacks, dairy, and frozen foods, will also have clearly labeled GF options scattered throughout. Always keep a sharp eye out for that 'Gluten-Free' certification logo – it’s your most reliable friend in navigating the aisles, especially for those with Celiac's where cross-contamination is a serious concern. Speaking of snacks, beyond the amazing UNREAL milk chocolate covered pretzels I mentioned earlier, Whole Foods has a fantastic selection of gluten-free crackers and chips that deserve a shout-out. For crackers, I've become a huge fan of brands like Mary's Gone Crackers (their Super Seed variety is a consistent staple for us!) and Simple Mills Almond Flour Crackers. They hold up incredibly well to dips and cheeses, making them perfect for entertaining or just a simple snack. And for chips? The options are endless! I love Siete Grain Free Tortilla Chips for a healthier alternative to traditional corn chips, and you can often find unique veggie crisps or lentil chips. While the Drizzilicious S'mores Bites are a sweet, crunchy treat, don't overlook the savory chip aisle for brands like Hippeas chickpea puffs or Beanitos for a different kind of crunch. It’s not just about branded GF products either. Whole Foods is excellent for naturally gluten-free foods like fresh produce, lean meats, fish, and dairy. Building meals around these naturally GF items can make the transition much smoother and often more budget-friendly. Don't forget about those fantastic 365 Whole Foods Market brand items – their Gluten Free Vanilla Sandwich Cremes are just one example of how their house brand delivers on taste without the gluten, often at a great price point. And Maxine's Heavenly Oatmeal Creme Sandwich cookies are another example of a brand focusing on both incredible taste and dietary needs, proving that GF doesn't mean sacrificing flavor. My biggest takeaway from our gluten-free journey? Always, always read the labels. Even if a product seems inherently gluten-free, cross-contamination is a real concern for Celiac disease. Look for 'Certified Gluten-Free' seals. Also, be aware of ingredients like malt (often from barley), wheat starch (unless certified GF), and natural flavors that might hide gluten. It gets easier with practice, I promise! Exploring Whole Foods has actually become a fun adventure for us, discovering new favorites and making our gluten-free lifestyle delicious and diverse. It’s amazing how many incredible options are out there once you know what to look for!
