📖 Book: Five Broken Blades

✍🏻Author: Mai Corland

📄 Plot: A poison maiden, a prince, a spymaster, a thief, and a strongman ban together to commit treason. Along the way the group faces dangers and obstacles. Romance worms its way into the journey but can you truly love someone if you can’t trust them? How can the plan work if there’s no trust between the five? Simple, with the king dead all of their lives improve greatly. One hopes to finally get her father’s approval. One gets freedom for herself and her sister. One gets an innocent man out of prison and from being executed. One gets to prove he can be better than those before him. One gets to set the people of his home island free. The question is would any of them be willing to betray the others?

✨Genre: Romantic Fantasy

💭 My Thoughts: I enjoyed this book so much! I loved how there was a little bit of everything - romance, betrayal, action, and twists. I listened to the audiobook and read in the physical copy. The voice acting was wonderful and I loved getting all the different perspectives throughout the story. I cannot wait to read the next book!

... Read moreOkay, let's talk about something I noticed even before I dived into the incredible world of 'Five Broken Blades' – and that's the *cover*! As a reader, I'm definitely guilty of judging a book by its cover sometimes. And for Mai Corland's 'Five Broken Blades', the cover art is absolutely captivating and perfectly sets the stage for the epic story within. When I first saw the 'Five Broken Blades' book cover, I was immediately drawn to its darker, regal aesthetic. The imagery often hints at the high stakes and the intricate web of deceit that unfolds. You know that tagline, 'Only one can take the crown'? The cover art really visualizes that struggle for power and the potential for betrayal among the characters. It often features elements that evoke a sense of ancient, fantastical royalty, maybe with subtle hints of conflict or hidden danger. I love how the visual design communicates the romantic fantasy genre without giving too much away about the plot. What I find so clever about the 'Five Broken Blades' cover is how it subtly weaves in themes of romance, betrayal, action, and twists that the story delivers in spades. For instance, if there's a prominent figure or a group of figures on the cover, their expressions or positioning can often hint at the alliances and betrayals detailed in the plot. The color palette typically leans into rich, deep tones – think royal blues, deep reds, or burnished gold – which really emphasizes the political intrigue and the dangerous world the characters inhabit. It made me feel like I was about to embark on a grand adventure, full of cunning plans and passionate conflicts. I remember picking up the book (or seeing it online) and thinking, 'This looks intense!' The cover art truly reflected the 'only one can take the crown' vibe, hinting at the cutthroat competition and the dangerous quests these five individuals undertake. It’s not just a pretty picture; it's a promise of the thrilling journey inside. From the moment I saw it, I already had a sense of the morally grey characters and the high stakes involved in their treasonous plot. Many times, book covers feel disconnected from the actual story, but not with 'Five Broken Blades'. The visual elements, whether it's the specific typography, the symbolic imagery, or the overall composition, all tie back to Mai Corland's masterful storytelling. It's like the artist truly understood the heart of the narrative. It made me appreciate the book even more, knowing that such care went into its presentation. It's definitely a cover that stands out on my bookshelf and makes me want to revisit the story. If you're someone who appreciates good cover art that genuinely represents the book's essence, you'll definitely appreciate the 'Five Broken Blades' cover. It's an integral part of the reading experience, in my opinion, making the book feel cohesive and thoughtfully produced from start to finish.
