The anxiety and guardedness don't vanish overnight; you become hyper-aware of red flags in new environments and more protective of your mental space. For instance, I used to brace myself before every meeting, concerned that a single misstep could lead to backlash. Now, with good leadership that values transparent and constructive feedback, work feels challenging but not oppressive. It's empowering to realize that feedback can be a tool for growth rather than a source of fear. In my current job, open communication and supportive leadership have transformed how I view workplace interactions. I've learned that control does not have to be synonymous with leadership, and autonomy within clear guidelines fosters motivation and well-being. This journey from a toxic workplace to a healthy one reshaped my understanding of career growth and employee wellbeing. It reminded me that while past experiences inform our protective instincts, they also sharpen our ability to appreciate and cultivate positive work cultures. Holding onto these lessons ensures that the peace gained is cherished and preserved, making every challenge an opportunity rather than a threat.
