... Read moreOkay, mamas-to-be, you know that feeling, right? The 'any moment now' anticipation mixed with a little panic that you've forgotten something crucial for the biggest day of your life! My first list was a great start, but after chatting with other moms and going through my own packing process, I realized there's so much more to consider for your hospital bag for labor and delivery. Let's dive deeper into making sure you have absolutely everything you need for comfort, recovery, and those first precious moments.
First off, those High-Waisted Undies? Seriously, they're a game-changer. The hospital mesh undies are okay for emergencies, but for actual comfort during postpartum recovery, you'll want something soft, breathable, and supportive that won't irritate any incisions. Trust me, your body will thank you!
And for Self Care, beyond just a face wash and moisturizer, think about a full pampering kit. My skin felt so dry after labor, so having my favorite gentle CLEANSER and a rich body lotion made a huge difference. Don't forget a good lip balm – hospital air can be super drying! I also packed a soft hairbrush, hair ties (you'll need them!), and a cozy robe. It’s all about those small comforts that make you feel more like yourself. That 'Pampering ASK KIT' from the OCR actually makes me think that a travel-sized kit of toiletries is a brilliant idea for easy access!
Let's talk practicalities that often get overlooked. That Long Phone Charger? Make it an extra-long one! Outlets are never where you need them. I also learned to bring a portable power bank. There's nothing worse than your phone dying when you're trying to capture baby's first moments or update family.
For actual Postpartum Recovery, beyond nipple butter (which is truly a labor essential if you plan to breastfeed!), consider a peri bottle if the hospital doesn't provide one you like, and some comfortable nursing pads if you're breastfeeding. Soft, loose-fitting pajamas or nightgowns are also key – forget anything restrictive!
What about for baby? While hospitals provide a lot, having your own going-home outfit for your little one is so sweet. I also packed a soft swaddle. And please, please make sure your car seat is installed correctly before you go! That's one less thing to worry about.
Don't forget some snacks for both you and your partner! Labor can be long, and hospital food schedules might not align with your hunger. Granola bars, fruit, and electrolyte drinks are lifesavers. Speaking of partners, have them pack their own small bag with a change of clothes, toiletries, and some entertainment. They'll be there for a while too!
Finally, the boring but essential stuff: Paperwork. Have your ID, insurance card, and any pre-registration forms or birth plan ready in a folder. You definitely don't want to be scrambling for those.
Packing my Hospital Bag was a journey, and every time I learn something new. It's about combining practicality with those little touches of comfort from home. What else did you find absolutely indispensable in your labor and delivery bag?
I highly recommend bringing stool softeners 🤣 they will help sooo much for post partum bathroom trips
