Similarly, sharing your vulnerabilities or past traumas provides them with ammunition to exploit you, often under the guise of concern. I learned to keep those parts of myself guarded because anything shared can be weaponized. Opening up about feelings is another risky area. Narcissists tend to dismiss or mock your emotions to regain control and make you feel overly sensitive. I found that minimizing emotional disclosures to them helped reduce these harmful encounters, which in turn supported my recovery. Also, I stopped informing the narcissist about upcoming life events. They have a knack for turning your celebrations into self-centered dramas or sabotaging your special moments. Protecting such information preserves your peace and reduces unnecessary conflicts, especially late-night fights just before important days. Ultimately, I adopted the principle of 'less is more'—sharing less personal information means fewer ways for the narcissist to manipulate or gaslight you. This approach, while it takes practice, can significantly help regain your power and protect your emotional energy during recovery from narcissistic abuse.
