From my personal experience, it's essential to recognize that many enablers are often uncomfortable facing the harsh truths about the abuser—especially if that abuser has passed away. This discomfort leads them to defend the abuser, often invalidating the survivor's experiences. One important lesson I've learned is that you don't owe anyone an apology for refusing to idealize an abusive parent or family member. It's okay to assert that being a parent does not automatically mean someone deserved respect or forgiveness, especially if they caused harm. When enablers try to guilt you by saying "but that’s your mother," it’s a tactic meant to silence you and preserve their own denial. Standing your ground firmly can shift family dynamics, even if it causes temporary discomfort or awkwardness. In my journey, I found that humor and blunt honesty helped disarm family members trying to gaslight me. Saying things like, "I absolutely do not miss that woman because that is the truth" can feel empowering, as it refuses to let their outdated opinions dictate your narrative. Enablers often prefer to avoid uncomfortable truths to keep enabling behavior alive, but calling out this pattern disrupts their control and helps break cycles of abuse. Remember, recovery isn’t just about healing yourself but also about setting boundaries that protect your mental health. You have every right to confront enablers and expose inconvenient truths without feeling guilty. Over time, this can inspire others to reconsider their enabling roles and support healthier family dynamics. Sharing your experiences and standing firm in your truth not only aids your recovery but can also encourage others trapped in similar situations to find their voice.

They weren’t there, so why do they get a vote? You’re the one who has to experience your life and your nervous system and the aftermath of narcissistic abuse. Not them. Fuck them. #flyingmonkeys #enablers #narctok

Calling narcissistic abuse for what it is isn’t mean
Apparently using the correct word to describe a narcissist and being able to name the abuse is “going too far.” 😂🤦🏻‍♀️ Meanwhile they called us every name in the book. Tell me in the comments - what’s the most outrageous thing the narcissist in your life ever called you? #narctok
