One way to reduce the sugar level without sacrificing flavor is to cut back on the sugar in the dough and the filling separately—using less in the dough helps keep the rolls lighter. You can also enhance the cinnamon flavor with a sprinkle of nutmeg or a touch of vanilla extract, which adds depth without extra sweetness. When it comes to the chunky texture I had, rolling the dough thinner before cutting the rolls helped a lot in making them more delicate. Also, allowing the dough to rise adequately makes the rolls fluffier and less dense. For glazing or icing, I recommend using a light cream cheese frosting or simply dusting powdered sugar; both options add sweetness without overwhelming the taste. As for ingredients, choosing good quality sugar is important. I noticed the pack in my kitchen was Sugar Loaf Lake’s brand—distinct brands sometimes make a subtle difference in the final taste. Ultimately, cinnamon rolls are a wonderful treat to share with family, and the joy of baking them yourself is truly rewarding. Keep experimenting with sugar levels and technique to find your perfect recipe!
