Avoiding, stuffing, suppressing, running from, seeking distractions elsewhere, keeps it within us. It may move to the subconscious, or unconscious, from the conscious mind. But it is still within us. It allows us to be triggered. It can come out as projection, self-sabatoge, guilt, shame, anger, anxiety, depression or in a multitude of other ways.
We can process it in the moment or soon after. But by processing it right away it prevents it from clogging up and becoming heavy. Just think of how light a single snowflake is. But when it combines to many snowflakes (especially when wet) it becomes heavy. Think of being wet as a metaphor for emotions, given water represents emotions. Heavy emotions can make something heavier (hard to process) to process it than when it is just small (like a single snowflake).
Just like how regularly shoveling makes the job easier, even for our bodies (especially our back), regularly processing our emotions makes it easier on our body, mind, emotions and soul. It makes it easier because things do not have a chance to compound. It also helps it from freezing your heart and preventing you from allowing others in.
Healing is a journey that requires us to face our emotions head-on rather than pretending they don’t exist or stuffing them deep inside. The quote repeated in the images — "Don't pretend not to get hurt or stuff it. Walk through the pain in order to process it. That is how healing occurs" — perfectly captures this vital truth. When we avoid our pain or suppress it, it lingers in our subconscious or unconscious mind, ready to trigger reactions such as projection, self-sabotage, guilt, shame, anger, anxiety, and depression. Processing emotions as soon as possible is crucial to prevent them from accumulating and becoming heavy burdens. Think of emotions as individual snowflakes: each one is light on its own, but when combined, especially if wet (like emotions, since water represents feelings), the weight can become overwhelming. This analogy reminds us that regularly addressing our feelings lightens the load on our body, mind, and soul. It keeps emotional blockages from freezing our hearts and shutting out meaningful connections with others. One practical way to foster healing is by setting aside time daily or weekly to check-in with yourself and consciously identify what you’re feeling. Journaling or speaking with a trusted friend or mentor can be powerful tools in this process. This intentional processing helps prevent emotional buildup that can manifest as self-sabotage or physical ailments. Spiritual growth is also deeply intertwined with emotional processing. When we allow ourselves to fully experience and release emotions, we clear the energetic walls that block spiritual connection and growth. This openness fosters greater empathy, self-love, and resilience, helping us move beyond shame or guilt and embrace compassion and forgiveness. Remember, healing is not about avoiding pain but learning to walk through it with awareness and kindness. By honoring this process, we transform emotional challenges into opportunities for growth, lightness, and deeper connection with ourselves and others.
