make an herbal infused ritual oil with me
This past full moon (1-25-24) I decided to make a ritual oil infused with herbs for the first time. I wanted to make an oil with purifying and protective qualities but to also act as a block buster and call in prosperity and abundance. Everything I used I already had in my home and no ingredient absolutely needs to be added—I just like to use whatever I have, if you don’t have everything I added that’s 100% okay! Be resourceful and use whatever calls to you ✨
This is what I specifically used for this oil:
💚rosemary: protection, purification, healing, love
💚garlic: protection, exorcism (purifying), healing
💚basil: wealth, love, protection, exorcism
💚clove: money, protection, exorcism, love
💚hibiscus: love
💚elder flowers: exorcism, protection, prosperity
💚pomegranate skin: wealth, luck, wishes
💚cinnamon: success, healing, protection, love
💚star anise: luck, protection
(I learned about the properties from Cunningham’s Encyclopedia of Magical Herbs. I listed the properties relevant to my intention, each herb has more properties and uses)
I freestyled the measurements and used what I thought felt like enough. I added each ingredient one by one and while doing so I set the intention of the herbs purpose in the oil and thanked it. I used about half a cup of olive oil which was just enough to cover all the herbs + a bit more. I only wanted to make a small amount but I would say the more oil you want to make the more herbs you should add. I put the jar of herbs in a “baño María” which is basically when you put a glass jar or bowl within a pot with simmering or boiling water. I left the jar to infuse for about 2.5 hours, stirring it occasionally. After I figured it was done infusing I strained out the herbs and poured the oil into a clean jar. I patted the herbs with a paper towel to absorb most of the oil and then I placed them as an offering to my elder tree and datura plant.
I left my jar outside under the full moon for a couple hours before I used it to dress my candle. I’m probably going to solely use it for dressing candles but infused oils can be used for just about anything. Certain oils + herbs are especially good to cook with for kitchen witchery or also to use topically for glamour magick. There are so many possibilities, be creative!

Creating herbal infused oils is a powerful practice in various traditions, including witchcraft and green witchery. To ensure a successful infusion, select herbs that resonate with your intention. For instance, rosemary is known for protection and purification, while basil can attract wealth and love. Use around half a cup of carrier oil, like olive oil, to cover your herbs while simmering them in a 'baño María' for a potent infusion. The art of intention setting during this process cannot be overstated. Engage with the herbs by focusing on their beneficial powers as you add them to your oil. After the infusion period, straining the herbs and storing the oil properly helps preserve its potency. The resulting oil can be versatile—employ it to dress candles, charms, or even in kitchen witchery for cooking. Explore the various uses of your infused oil, from enhancing rituals to nourishing your skin. Don't hesitate to mix different herbs or alter the infusion time based on your specific desires. Remember, creativity is key in these practices, so allow the process to inspire you! If you have alternative herbs available, trust your intuition and experiment to discover what works best for your unique rituals.
