Places I’ve visited in: California 🌇

I’ve barely touched the surface here but Los Angeles and San Francisco was a start! California is huge and beautiful and there are so many places I’d like to go back to see.

Most places in this post were FREE to visit but had plenty around to spend money on.

This post if for those who love hiking, sight seeing, shopping, food, the beach, sunset, historical sites, road trips travel, antiques, the ocean, the city and all things California.

Drop some recommendations in the comments so I can start planning my next visit!

... Read moreCalifornia is a state of endless wonders, and even just scratching the surface in Los Angeles and San Francisco left me with so many amazing memories. If you’re planning your own adventure, here are some expanded thoughts and tips from my visits that I hope you’ll find useful! My first stop in LA was the iconic Griffith Observatory, and wow, what a view! Getting up there can be a little tricky with parking, especially on weekends, so I’d highly recommend going early in the morning or planning to use a ride-sharing service to avoid the hassle. Seeing the city spread out below, especially at sunset when the lights begin to twinkle, is absolutely magical. Don't just stay outside; the astronomical exhibits inside are fascinating and totally free to explore! Then, of course, there's the legendary Hollywood Walk of Fame. It feels like it stretches for miles! I spent ages trying to find my favorite movie stars' plaques. A little tip: many of the more famous stars are concentrated around the TCL Chinese Theatre and the Dolby Theatre. Be prepared for crowds, but it's such a quintessential LA experience. We also walked past Madame Tussauds and enjoyed checking out the quirky shops along the way. For breathtaking vistas without the overwhelming crowds, the Mulholland Scenic Parkway offers incredible viewpoints, especially near the Universal City Overlook. I loved stretching my legs and soaking in the panoramic views of the San Fernando Valley. It’s particularly stunning at dusk as the city lights begin to illuminate the landscape. And you can't visit LA without a trip to Santa Monica Pier! Even though the water was a bit chilly for swimming during my visit, we had a blast. There’s so much more than just the rides at Pacific Park; the energy is infectious. We enjoyed browsing the unique shops and grabbing some fresh seafood. Walking around the Third Street Promenade nearby is also a great way to spend an afternoon. Finally, for a taste of luxury (even if it's just window shopping!), Rodeo Drive is an experience in itself. It’s perfect for snapping some glamorous photos and dreaming about designer finds. I loved seeing all the high-end boutiques and fancy cars. Moving up to San Francisco, the Golden Gate Postcard Viewpoint truly lives up to its name. The views of the bridge and the bay are simply iconic. I found a lovely little gift shop there, and if you're up for it, there are some great short hiking trails around to get different perspectives of the bridge and the ocean. Just a short drive south of the city, Pacifica State Beach offered one of the most beautiful sunsets I've ever witnessed. The cool air, the sound of crashing waves – it was pure bliss. There are several spots along this scenic coast to pull over and just take it all in, making it a perfect end to a day of exploration. On my road trip between LA and SF, we stopped in Kettleman City. It’s a small town, but I was pleasantly surprised by the charm of the antique shops. It’s a fun little detour to stretch your legs and find some unique treasures or grab a quick snack before continuing the scenic drive. These are just a few highlights, but California truly has something for everyone – from bustling city life and historical sites to serene natural beauty and endless beaches. I hope my experiences inspire your own unforgettable trip! What are your favorite California spots?
