there’s two different kinds of #sober people 🥲
•
From my own experience and many conversations within the sobriety community, I've noticed there really are two distinct paths that people take when they become sober. Some of us choose sobriety as a deliberate step toward healing past trauma. This path often involves confronting intense emotions, memories, and cravings that can feel overwhelming. It's common to have moments of frustration or even longing for the ‘rage’ or release that substances once provided, but the journey is about learning healthier ways to cope. On the other hand, some people find themselves sober because it was mandated—whether by legal circumstances, work requirements, or family interventions. This group might struggle more with acceptance at first and can experience intense cravings or feelings of loss. However, over time, many discover new ways to live fully, embracing fitness routines like going to the gym or adopting hobbies and communities, such as those supporting tattoo culture or the sobriety journey itself. One powerful aspect I've found is the importance of connection and self-expression. Tags like #sobrietyjourney and #girlswithtattoos represent communities where people find support and identity beyond their past drinking. The feeling of 'living my best life' may ebb and flow, and occasionally the urge to 'miss the rage' creeps in, but sharing those feelings helps normalize the experience. Ultimately, sobriety is deeply personal and multifaceted. Recognizing these different experiences allows us to approach our journeys with compassion and patience, understanding that healing is not linear, but a dynamic process influenced by individual history and motivations.
