... Read moreLiving with a dysregulated nervous system, especially as a high-functioning woman, can feel like a constant battle. I have personally experienced the exhausting cycle of being in 'go-mode' until I crash, along with the racing thoughts and inability to truly relax. I realized that the solution wasn’t to push myself harder or discipline more, but to gently regulate my nervous system. This meant learning to listen to my body’s signals such as tight chest or shallow breathing, shoulder and jaw tension, and digestive discomfort—signs that my body was in distress even when my mind was trying to ignore it. One of the most helpful practices was adopting simple daily regulation techniques like deep diaphragmatic breathing to calm the nervous system and mindfulness meditation to ground racing thoughts. I also found that setting clear and aligned boundaries with work and personal relationships was crucial to reduce overwhelm and avoid burnout cycles. Over time, these small consistent steps created a profound sense of safety and presence in my body. It’s important to understand that feeling on edge or shut down isn’t a sign of weakness or failure—it’s your nervous system trying to protect you. Tools like progressive muscle relaxation, gentle yoga, or spending time in nature helped me reconnect with my body’s natural rhythms. Remember, this isn’t about adding more discipline, but about self-care and nervous system regulation. If you relate to feeling numb, disconnected, or constantly exhausted, consider exploring professional support, such as coaching or therapy specialized in nervous system regulation. Visit resources like www.thelunarwolfguide.com to discover tailored strategies to help you reclaim your energy and feel safe within yourself again. Healing is possible, and you’re definitely not alone on this journey.

The image displays the title "How abuse can change your nervous system" in purple text, with a subtitle "Abuse can be physical or emotionally." below it. A purple arrow points right, and a Lemon8 logo with username is in the bottom left.
The image describes how abuse activates the "Fight or Flight Response," leading to hypervigilance, anxiety, and heightened startle responses, making minor stressors feel overwhelming due to constant high alert in the sympathetic nervous system.
The image explains that chronic abuse can alter brain structures like the amygdala (overactive), hippocampus (shrinks, memory issues), and prefrontal cortex (less active, difficulty with emotional regulation and decision-making).
