The Unsexy Budget Check I Do on Repeat

Real life moment: I was standing in my bathroom and realized this is one of those things I buy over and over without thinking about it. Since I’m allergic to most brands, I only use Tampax — so I recheck prices every so often to make sure I’m not overpaying.

Here’s what I found this time around:

At Walmart, the multi-pack with different flow levels is $8.94 (26.3¢ each). The larger single boxes ended up cheaper per tampon — the Super and Regular 50-count boxes come out to 22.9¢ each, and the Ultra 60-count is 24.2¢ each.

At Dollar General, the multipack is higher at $9.50, and the smaller 18-count boxes cost more per tampon unless you catch the 2-for-$10 deal — still not my best option long-term.

Amazon surprised me the most. The Ultra 32-count box comes out to about 14¢ per tampon, which is the cheapest option I found this time. The larger 100-count Regular and Super boxes were around 22¢ each, similar to Walmart.

I don’t switch every month — I just recheck prices every few months and stock up where it makes sense. It’s not exciting, but it keeps my regular spending from creeping up.
