... Read moreAs someone who has spent years working in dermatology, I can attest to how critical it is to maintain good hygiene, especially when staying in hotels. Hotels can often be hotspots for fungi, bacteria, and even bed bugs, which can have negative effects on your skin health. One personal tip I always recommend is to never walk barefoot in hotel rooms or common areas. Even if the floor looks clean, microscopic organisms can linger and cause infections such as athlete's foot. Another important habit is always using footwear in the shower. Hotel bathrooms are often moist environments that foster bacterial growth. Wearing shower shoes minimizes contact with potentially contaminated surfaces. It's also wise to remove decorative pillows and blankets upon checking in. These items are less frequently washed, increasing the risk of exposure to dust mites or skin irritants. Checking the mattress and headboard area for bed bugs is another precaution to avoid an uncomfortable and potentially skin-damaging infestation. Pay close attention to the glasses and cups provided in hotel rooms. Washing these thoroughly, or better yet, using new plastic cups that are sealed, ensures you reduce the risk of contamination. Finally, if you bring a magnifying mirror — like a 10X mirror commonly used to examine skin closely — consider storing it away during your stay. Its reflective surface can sometimes highlight imperfections that aren’t significant or cause unnecessary anxiety. Traveling can take a toll on your skin and overall health if proper precautions are not followed. By integrating these dermatology-based hotel hygiene tips into your routine, you not only protect your skin but also enjoy your trip with peace of mind. From preventing fungal infections to avoiding bed bugs, these simple steps can make a significant difference in preserving your skin’s health on the road.

Tans are a sign of dna damage... at any capacity. Seeing someone go from so fair to so dark in such a short timeframe is concerning. The Canadian Cancer Society has continuously documented an increase in non-melanoma skin cancers (NMSC) and melanoma... I don't see a drop happening either.
