How Cardio vs Weight Lifting Feels Mentally

I had this realization the other day. I used to be a cardio only girl and I have been weight lifting consistently this entire year. The two are both necessary for a well rounded and complete exercise routine of course! But they also feel so different mentally in my opinion.

Doing cardio makes me feel like I am manually burning calories and trying to work something off. Oftentimes after a big cardio session, I am super tired! I also feel like I have less control in these type of activities. I don't think this is sustainable to only to cardio and no other form of exercise.

Weight lifting feels like I am building myself, getting strong, and creating something. It gives me energy and it is super cool that you can sculpt your body with it. Muscle is also very sustainable and valuable to have for your overall health!

I do both activities but primarily strength train and I have been loving this change.

... Read moreBoth cardio and weight lifting play crucial roles in fitness, but their mental impacts differ significantly. Cardio primarily focuses on endurance and burning calories, which can leave you feeling fatigued and less in control. This form of exercise is vital for cardiovascular health, yet relying solely on it may not provide sustainable results long-term. On the other hand, weight lifting offers a sense of empowerment and control. It enables you to sculpt your body and build strength, promoting a positive mental outlook and energy boost. The endorphins released during strength training enhance mood and motivation, making it a fulfilling experience. Incorporating both styles into your routine can maximize mental and physical benefits, allowing you to cultivate not just a fit body but also a strong and resilient mindset. Understanding how these forms of exercise interact can aid in creating a more holistic approach to fitness, aligning physical health with mental wellness. Whether you are seeking weight loss, muscle gain, or simply a more engaged relationship with your body, recognizing the unique advantages of each can propel you toward your goals.
