✨ Japanese restaurant recommendation ✨

I'm officially adding @bistrosakanayaletown to my list of favorite Japanese restaurants. Most of their fish is flown in directly from Japan, and you can even find rare items like "Hamo" aka Daggertooth pike conger here.

I was so impressed by their tempura, not many places in BC do it right! The Wagyu is also the real deal, we had authentic A5 Miyazaki Wagyu. The menu is on the pricier side, but for the quality of the dishes, I think it’s very reasonable. For example, Omakase Sushi is 6pcs for $40 and the Omakase Sashimi platter is $60, +$22 for Bluefin tuna otoro.

And don't get me started on the wasabi! They have three tiers, and we tried the middle one. It was so good🤤 The top tier is fresh grated wasabi for $20, which I heard is barely breaking even.

👉️For those looking for a deal, they have happy hour every day, and they also offer a $28 lunch gozen on weekdays!

-omakase sashimi $60 +$22 Bluefin tuna otoro.

-hamachi carpaccio $34

-bluefin sushi trio 6pcs $55

-hamo tempura w plum sauce $14

-blue horizon roll $25

-stone grill A5 wagyu $85

-nasu denagku $12

... Read moreVisiting Bistro Sakana Vancouver was a delightful culinary journey that truly elevated my appreciation for authentic Japanese cuisine. One thing that stood out was the rare "Hamo" or Daggertooth pike conger tempura, which I rarely see offered anywhere outside Japan. The delicate preparation and plum sauce accompaniment elevated this dish to a memorable experience, confirming that it’s hard to find such quality tempura in the BC area. The A5 Miyazaki Wagyu stone grill was another highlight—it’s absolutely decadent and melts in your mouth, delivering precisely the rich flavor and tenderness expected from true Miyazaki-grade beef. Pairing it with their middle-tier wasabi, which offers a balanced kick without overpowering, created a harmonious blend of flavors. I could easily taste the freshness and care put into their wasabi selection; the top-tier fresh grated wasabi, although pricey at $20, is said to be offered at near cost price, which shows their dedication to quality. I appreciated that despite the restaurant leaning toward the pricier side, the portion sizes and ingredient quality justified the cost. For example, the omakase sushi with 6 pieces for $40 and sashimi platter for $60 (plus $22 for Bluefin tuna otoro) presents good value for high-end dining. Beyond the food, Bistro Sakana provides excellent value opportunities with their daily happy hour and weekday $28 lunch gozen. These offerings make indulging in top-tier Japanese dining more accessible, especially for those exploring Vancouver’s vibrant Yaletown food scene. Overall, if you’re someone who values authentic Japanese ingredients flown directly from Japan, rare delicacies, expertly prepared dishes, and an inviting atmosphere, Bistro Sakana is a must-visit spot. It’s perfect for foodies seeking an exquisite omakase experience or anyone craving expertly prepared Japanese dishes in downtown Vancouver.
