Costco is cool, I like the samples but I really find it wasteful for the average person or family. Especially now with inflation I don’t think the bang for your buck is there anymore.
From my experience, shopping at Costco can be a double-edged sword, especially for families who aren't equipped to consume large quantities before products expire. While Costco offers unbeatable deals on bulk items—like Kirkland brand products that are often praised for their quality—it can sometimes encourage overbuying, which leads to waste, particularly with perishables like avocados and peanut butter. Inflation adds another layer to this dilemma. When prices rise, the appeal of bulk purchasing can seem less convincing if you can’t effectively use or share the items. However, I’ve found strategies that help maximize the value: planning meals around bulk purchases, sharing memberships with friends or relatives, or dividing large quantities into smaller portions to freeze and save for later. Costco samples are a definite highlight; they introduce you to new products without commitment. Yet, I agree that the hype sometimes overshadows practicality. It’s important to assess your household’s actual consumption patterns rather than being swayed by marketing or the excitement of deals. In short, Costco can offer value and quality but works best when combined with thoughtful planning to avoid waste—a balancing act that becomes even more crucial amidst inflation.
