How do you feel about sharing grades?

I’m in my first semester of nursing school, and everyone wants to know your grade on each exam. Personally, I don’t like to discuss my grades because I don’t want to brag, advertise, or jinx.

Do you discuss your grades? It’s that normal, or is my program weird? I never experienced that in my first degree. What are your thoughts?

... Read moreIn nursing school, sharing grades can spark a range of emotions and opinions among students. For many, it serves as a benchmark of academic progress and fuels healthy competition. However, it can also lead to unnecessary pressure and feelings of inadequacy, especially for those who may not excel as their peers. It’s important to recognize that everyone's academic journey is unique, and discussing grades can either motivate or intimidate depending on personal perspectives. Some students find that sharing grades can foster a sense of community, allowing for supportive discussions on how to improve study habits and tackle challenging subjects together. Others may feel that public knowledge of their performance could lead to comparisons that distract from learning. Mental health awareness in academic settings is growing, and open discussions around the effects of grade sharing are essential to creating a supportive environment. Ultimately, the decision to share grades should be personal. Some may thrive in an open forum, while others prefer to keep their achievements private. Engaging in conversations about academic pressures, whether through online forums or peer discussions, can also provide insight into more balanced approaches to learning. As students, finding a comfortable middle ground in discussing grades may contribute to a healthier academic atmosphere where everyone feels encouraged to succeed.

I don’t feel that people always ask what you made as a competition but to determine if they are doing well too.

so my nursing program all of us are trauma bonded 😂*iykyk* so we all want each other to succeed and we typically ask “did you pass?” or “how did you feel about that exam?” as a way to kind of calculate the class average when it’s not shared with us. it also helps us gage what we collectively don’t understand!
