Bariatric surgery is often misunderstood by many who haven't experienced the complex journey behind it. From my own experience, the hardest part wasn’t the surgery itself but facing the judgment and misconceptions from others. People tend to see the surgery as an "easy way out," but what they don't realize is the years of struggles, failed attempts, relapses, and the constant mental fatigue it takes before making that courageous choice. One of the most challenging aspects is dealing with external opinions. The fear of being judged more harshly than the actual surgery haunted me throughout the process. However, what helped me the most was shifting my mindset: recognizing that no one truly lives in your body or understands your silent battles. Choosing bariatric surgery was a deeply personal decision for me—not to fit any societal standard, but to reclaim my health and happiness. It's a form of self-care and self-love, an act of courage rather than surrender. After surgery, the journey doesn’t end—it transforms. There are new challenges: adapting to dietary changes, maintaining physical activity, and ongoing mental health care. Surrounding oneself with a supportive community, whether through forums or local groups, can be invaluable. In sharing this, I hope to shed light on the unseen struggles behind bariatric surgery and encourage anyone considering it to focus on their own health journey without fear of judgment. Remember, this choice is about feeling better in your body and mind, and only you can live your story.
