Unlearning Diet Culture

1/20 Edited to

... Read moreIn my personal journey toward rejecting diet culture, I've realized how deeply it infiltrates not only our perceptions but also our wallets. The concept of "Thinness By Subscription," as highlighted in the article, resonates strongly—think of all the monthly diet plans, supplements, and fitness apps that keep us paying for the promise of a 'better body.' What’s troubling is not just the financial investment but the emotional toll; the constant messaging that thinness equates worth leads many to lifetime cycles of guilt and shame. For me, unlearning diet culture meant stepping away from quick fixes and learning to listen to my body’s needs. Instead of subscribing to the latest trend, I embraced mindful eating, which emphasizes nourishment without restriction. Body politics plays a big role here, as recognizing the social and economic systems that profit from our insecurities is empowering. Moreover, understanding who profits—from big corporations to influencers promoting unrealistic ideals—sparked a shift in my approach to wellness. It’s about reclaiming autonomy and rejecting the pressure to conform to harmful standards. This process isn’t quick or easy, but connecting with communities that challenge diet culture, such as anti-diet forums and support groups, has been invaluable. Ultimately, unlearning diet culture is a revolutionary act of self-acceptance and a challenge to the societal norms that equate value with size. By sharing experiences and knowledge, we can collectively see through the business model that profits off our bodies and strive towards a more inclusive, compassionate understanding of health and beauty.

A classical painting of Aphrodite emerging from a large seashell in the ocean, with flowing pink and green fabric. Bold black text overlaid reads: "HOW TO WORK WITH APHRODITE."
Over a classical painting of Aphrodite in a seashell, text advises researching Aphrodite, noting her epithet "Pandemos" means "of all the people," accessible with honesty, intention, and self-awareness.
Against a classical painting of Aphrodite, text explains not to call her to force love, but to be seen and unashamed in desires, prompting self-reflection on cravings for softness and fears.
🐚 How to Work With Aphrodite 💫
Aphrodite’s path is soft, but it isn’t passive. Working with her means opening, unlearning, and letting beauty become something deeper than aesthetics. If you’ve been feeling her energy lately, this is a good place to begin. 🐚🖤✨ #aphrodite #aphroditedevotee #deity #deitywork #godde

Unhealthy things I am unlearning as a mom 🌸
Being a good mom is my top priority. 1. Punishing emotions. I will not get my daughter in trouble for yelling at me, crying, or anything else. If you were crying and somebody told you you have no reason to be, or that they’ll give you a reason to cry, how would you feel? Worse? 2. Shaming.

- Unlearning Toxic Love 🧼🦋
Coming out of a toxic relationship seriously messes with how you view love. I remember being in something that constantly had me questioning myself, walking on eggshells, and thinking that chaos meant love. So when I got into a healthy (current) relationship, it didn’t feel “normal” at first.
