Cons of working for the government

Even though there are plenty of positives for working for the government, there is definitely some cons!

My schedule is always Monday through Friday because that’s when we are open! 8-5! I am there to assist the public so I work when the public can come in which is nice until you have to do something and everything else is also only open 8-5!!! I’d much rather work 6-3 or 6-2 and not take a lunch!!

We also don’t get paid the best! Public sector is definitely known for not getting paid as much as private, but we do get better health coverage so you have to weigh your options for what’s best for you!!

One major drawback is the rigid work schedule, typically confined to Monday through Friday from 8 AM to 5 PM. This rigidity can make it difficult to balance personal obligations or achieve work-life harmony, especially when other essential services operate during the same hours, leading to frustration. Another significant point of contention is the salary. Government positions are often associated with lower pay scales compared to equivalent roles in the private sector. Many employees find that, despite the added job security and benefits, the financial compensation does not meet their expectations or financial needs. It's vital to assess how these factors align with your long-term career goals and lifestyle desires. Overall, while government jobs have their merits, they require careful consideration of these less appealing aspects before making a commitment.
